Jeep History

At Rochester Hills CDJR, we could not be more proud to offer models by Jeep, a brand with a rich history of creativity, reliable performance, and a unique sense of style. 

Though the whole story of Jeep can hardly be summarized this quickly, we've come up with a quick timeline of monumental moments in Jeep's history:

1941 Jeep  

2015 Jeep Patriot Limited 

  • 1941 - The Willys Trucks, which would later become known as Jeep models, were introduced.
  • 1947 - An advertisement for Willys Trucks contains the phrase "Jeep Trucks," which was the first-ever official use of the name.
  • 1949 - The Jeep CJ-3A was revealed and would later become known as the father of all recreational vehicles.
  • 1960s - Jeep has already become known for its versatility, offering recreational as well as utility vehicles.
  • 1974 - The Jeep Cherokee is produced, starting a successful legacy that would continue to this very day.
  • 1970s - Jeep is recognized all around the world and becomes a major competitor in the international market.
  • 1980s - Many more Jeep models are released, and the prestige of the Cherokee continues with the reveal of the Cherokee XJ.
  • 1987 - The Jeep brand is acquired by Chrysler Automobiles.
  • 1990s - The Jeep Wrangler sees enormous sales, praised for its powerful off-roading capabilities and diverse list of uses.
  • 2000s - More and more Jeep models are introduced, such as the Liberty, Compass, and Commander.
  • Today - Jeep is currently owned by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and is still recognized world-wide as one of the leading makers of SUVs.
