The new concept was carefully designed to capture the American muscle spirit of Dodge while taking on a futuristic look as a symbol of the brand's journey into an electrified future. To take a first look at the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept, please continue reading below!
Exterior Design of the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept
Dodge achieves the modern electric vehicle design with sharp lines, a swooping roofline, and a cross-car LED light on the front and rear fascias with an illuminated Fratzog emblem as the centerpiece. As modern as the Charger Daytona SRT Concept's design is, Dodge manages to capture its heritage with some iconic design notes. One of these notes is the three-pointed Fratzog emblem itself, dating back to the emblem displayed on Dodge muscle cars from 1962 to 1976. Another emblematic Dodge design feature is the low, wide, and long stance, boasting a confident and aggressive presence on the road. The concept's patent-pending R-wing is named after the large wing on the original Charger Daytona. However, the concept's R-wing is at the front, connecting the fascia to the hood. The purpose of the R-wing is to allow air to pass through the openings, enhancing downforce and increasing aerodynamics. The overall appearance of the concept car is easy on the eyes and flows seamlessly from front to back.
Charger Daytona SRT Concept Interior Design
The Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept's interior design flows beautifully side to side with an intentionally simple, user-friendly, and driver-centric layout. The interior captures the concept's high-performance intentions with a cockpit-like feel, right down to the fighter jet-inspired cap that flips up for the driver to use the ignition button. Meanwhile, the automatic transmission is controlled by a pistol grip style shifter. The entire center stack is shifted slightly, focusing more on the driver. A 12.3-inch touchscreen can be found at the top of the center stack, controlling the entertainment and climate control features, making the interior almost completely free from physical buttons. The flat-bottom steering wheel was reimagined for the new Dodge concept car, making it thinner with a middle spoke that is disconnected from the rim, making it appear as if it is floating. The seats inside the Charger Daytona SRT Concept are race-inspired with a thin appearance and performance bolsters.
Powertrain of the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept
The Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept marks a turning point in the history of America's muscle car brand. Dodge named their first electric vehicle after the first car to ever break 200 MPH, the 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona because it will be more powerful, exciting, and faster than any other muscle car. The Charger Daytona SRT Concept employs the all-new Banshee propulsion system, an 800-volt battery electric vehicle (BEV) platform. This all-electric system mates to the new eRupt multi-speed transmission that uses electro-mechanical shifting to deliver distinctive shift points. This is unusual for an EV, as most EVs pride themselves on having seamless shift points. However, muscle car drivers smile as their shoulders sink further into the seatback each time the transmission shifts as the car accelerates. That is the exact reason why Dodge created the eRupt transmission, to continue the muscle car tradition. Being powered by electricity, there is no delay in torque distribution, which is sure to throw your shoulders back with all of the engine's power instantly sent to all four wheels. Dodge's new concept also features the new PowerShot feature, unleashing a boost in horsepower for a fifteen-second burst of acceleration. Of course, electric vehicles are virtually silent, a fact that Dodge found unacceptable. That's why engineers created the Fratzonic chambered exhaust system to emit a thunderous roar that reaches 126 decibels, the same as the Challenger and Charger Hellcat models.
