There are two transmission matches for this engine. Drivers can choose between the standard 6-speed manual and the available 8-speed automatic. The second engine offered for the 2020 model is a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 that cranks out 260 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. This engine is only paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. 4WD is the standard drivetrain configuration for both engines. The Gladiator is a workhorse, delivering the best-in-class towing capacity, maxing out at 7,650 pounds and the best-in-class payload capacity, maxing out at 1,700 pounds.

2020 Ford Ranger Power & Handling

There is just one engine powering the entire Ranger lineup for the 2020 model year. This 2.3-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine generates 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The standard drivetrain configuration is rear-wheel-drive but all-wheel-drive is available. Ford mates this engine with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The Ranger tries to keep up with the Gladiator, maxing out at 7,500 pounds when towing.

When choosing a Gladiator trim level, there are four trim levels to consider. Standard features include air conditioning, cruise control, removable doors, convertible roof, fold-down windshield, a 5-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity, and a 6-way manual driver's seat. The upper trim levels add keyless entry, power accessories, larger wheels, a 7-inch touchscreen, dual-zone climate control, smartphone integration, and automatic headlights. The Rubicon trim level is ready to dominate the trails with features like rock rails, tow hooks, skid plates, locking front and rear differentials, an electronic sway bar disconnect, and the exclusive Rock-Trac 4x4 system.

Lacking again, the Ranger only offers three trim levels to choose from in the 2020 model year. Standard features for the Ranger include Sync 3 and FordPass Connect, power windows and door locks, a rearview camera, and pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking. The higher two trim levels add on Ford's Co-Pilot360, an 8-inch touchscreen, front and rear parking sensors, dual-zone automatic climate control, a tilt/telescoping steering wheels, leather upholstery, heated side mirrors, LED headlights and taillights, and keyless entry and ignition.
