If you're in the market for an SUV, it might be challenging to wrap your head around all the different choices that are out there. So to save you time we will be covering two of the best, the Jeep Compass and the Mazda CX-5. On the left is the off-road capable and fuel-efficient Jeep Compass and on the right is the Mazda CX-5. Read on to see which one is worth your money the most. 

2019 Jeep Compass Power & Handling

The Jeep Compass boasts a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque paring with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic on the Sport and Latitude trims and a nine-speed automatic on the Limited or Trailhawk trims. When paired with automatic transmission, the Jeep Compass also comes with start/stop technology that will idle the engine when it comes to a complete stop. Front-wheel-drive is the standard, but the Jeep Compass also gives you the option of four-wheel-drive. When you go with four-wheel-drive, the Compass can tow up to 2,000 pounds.

2019 Mazda CX-5 Power & Handling

Coming standard in the Mazda CX-5 is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. It pairs with a six-speed automatic transmission with the option of either front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive. Also available is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that is also paired with a six-speed automatic while coming standard with all-whee-drive. Like the Compass the CX-5 can tow up to 2,000 pounds, and while the fuel consumption average of 28 mpg is good, the CX-5 lacks the stop/start technology of the Jeep Compass, so you are guaranteed to spend more time at the pump.

2019 Jeep Compass Features & Design

Four trim levels are available for the Jeep Compass proving you with a ton of options and features. The base-level Sport comes with 16-inch wheels, air conditioning, and a Uconnect system with a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth and a USB port with a six-speaker sound system. Higher-level trims come with keyless ignition and entry, upgraded cloth with simulated leather seat upholstery, remote start, automatic dual-zone climate control, and an upgraded Uconnect system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The top-tier Trailhawk is off-road ready and comes with off-road specific options such as 17-inch wheels with off-road-oriented tires and a raised suspension, and a Selec-Terrain system that helps it crawl over steep ascents and rocky surfaces. Underbody skid plates and red tow hooks round out the spectacular off-road features.

2019 Mazda CX-5 Features & Design

The Mazda CX-5 comes in five trim levels and has features such as LED headlights, push-button ignition, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, two USB ports and a four-speaker sound system at its base level. Higher trim levels provide you with automatic wipers, keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, a navigation system, rear climate vents, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration with two additional speakers. The top-tier Signature takes all the above features and adds ambient cabin lighting and a premium leather upholstery. These are some terrific features, but unlike the Jeep Compass, the CX-5 does not offer any options for off-roading, making it less fun to drive.     

Conclusions

Both are terrific vehicles, but in the end, we are going to give the victory to the Jeep Compass. It's fuel-efficiency as well as the ability to go off-road make this vehicle better to drive, and there are more available features at its base level.
