2020 Jeep Cherokee vs 2020 Kia Niro

There is a bevy of different compact SUV options out on the road, which makes it tough when you're trying to decide which one you want to drive home in. We want you to feel confident in the SUV you choose as your next ride, which is why we've gone ahead and compared two of the top models out there. Down below, we're going to be breaking down the powertrains and features of the 2020 Jeep Cherokee and the 2002 Kia Niro.

2020 Jeep Cherokee Power & Handling

The powertrain lineup for the Jeep Cherokee starts with the 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir 2 engine that outputs 180 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque. If you're looking for more power, you can go with either the 2.0-liter Turbo engine that makes 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque or the 3.2-liter Pentastar V6 engine that makes 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque. All three engines come mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission and can be paired with either front-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive. When the Cherokee is powered by the V6 engine, you'll be able to tow up to 4,500 pounds.

2020 Kia Niro Power & Handling

Well, there is a variety of engine options available for the Cherokee there is only one option for the Kia Niro. All Niro models are powered by a 1.6-liter gasoline-direct injection engine that pairs with an electric motor. This set up is only going to get you 139 horsepower, which feels rather underwhelming. The powertrain for the Niro comes paired with front-wheel-drive and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

2020 Jeep Cherokee Features & Design

The Latitude is the first model in the Cherokee lineup and it comes with Bluetooth, smartphone integration, USB ports, a six-speaker sound system, and more. The Latitude Plus adds on rear parking sensors, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, simulated-leather inserts in the upholstery, and keyless entry. The Limited comes next with leather upholstery, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, heated front seats, a nine-speaker sound system, and a heated steering wheel. With the Overland model, you also get heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, navigation, and more. The off-road Trailhawk model receives standard four-wheel-drive, hill ascent and descent control, tow hooks, all-terrain tires, and more.

2020 Kia Niro Features & Design

The Kia Niro comes in five trim levels with the base model coming outfitted with roof rails, dual-zone automatic climate control, a six-speaker sound system, and an 8-inch touchscreen. The LXS model adds on keyless entry, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The Touring model comes next with paddle shifters, a sunroof, cloth and leather upholstery, and a power-adjustable driver's seat. With the Touring Special Edition, you'll also get leather upholstery, LED headlights, and an 8-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. The top of the line EX Premium model comes loaded with heated and ventilated front seats, a cargo cover, rear parking sensors, and a heated steering wheel.

Conclusion:

We have to give it to the Kia Niro for putting up a good fight, but in the end, it couldn't hold up against the Jeep Cherokee. The engine in the Niro severely lacked power, and the absence of four-wheel-drive was a bit of a deal-breaker. If you'd like to take the 2020 Jeep Cherokee out on a test drive, we hope you will come on down and see us here at Rochester Hills Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram.
