2019 RAM 1500 vs 2019 GMC Sierra near Troy, MI

If you're in the market for a heavy-duty truck, two of the best brands around are RAM and GMC, and 2019 sees the release of their signature 1500 and Sierra models. Chances are if you have ever bought a pickup before you have taken a look at one of these models, but which one is the best to spend your hard-earned money on? In this article, we will break down the RAM 1500 and the GMC Sierra and see which one is better.

2019 RAM 1500 Power & Handling

The base engine for the RAM 1500 is a 5.7-liter V8 with 395 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque backed with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Also available is a 3.6-liter V6 with an eTorque mild-hybrid system that uses a 48-volt battery pack and a motor-generator that adds torque when specific situations call for it while also improving the RAM's fuel economy. The V6 provides 305 horsepower, and 269 lb-ft of torque and both engines come with the option of two or four-wheel drive. The RAM 1500 has a payload capacity of up to 2,302 pounds and a towing capacity of 11,610 pounds with the V8 engine.

2019 GMC Sierra Power & Handling

The base engine for the Sierra is a 4.3-liter V6 with 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque and is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. There is also an option of a 5.3-liter V8 amongst others. In 2019, the GMC Sierra has two cylinder management systems to help improve fuel economy. The brand-new Dynamic Fuel Management system is designed to fine-tune the balance between efficiency and power. Also available is a cylinder shut-off system to help boost the miles per gallon. Both of these systems are great but pale in comparison to the RAM's eTorque system, which allows the RAM to get more mpg.
